Motivate Your Obese Child With Weight Loss Tips For Kids

Sometimes simple changes are enough. Switch to non-fat milk, reduce potion sizes, eat nutritious snacks. Eat at the table, don't overeat in front of the TV. Healthy weight loss tips for kids include an emphasis on eating right and playing daily as a way of life. Losing pounds is only necessary when a child has reached adult height, otherwise just stop children from gaining more pounds. Growing bodies need proper nutrition so don't eliminate any of the food groups.

Unhealthy foods to remove from the diet are hamburger, sausage, bacon, fast food, sodas, french fries, cookies and chips. Replace with healthy foods like seafood, chicken, turkey, beans, peanut butter, soy. Serve fruits and vegetables at every meal and they should be available for snacks at any times.

Serve smaller portions at mealtime, but offer regular snacks to keep hunger at bay. Offer snacks between breakfast and lunch, lunch and dinner, and mid-evening. Healthy snacks kids like include peanut butter on whole grain waffles or rice cakes, yogurt, smoothies made from yogurt, cheese, fruits, vegetables with hummus dip, eggs in tortillas, whole grain cereal with low-fat milk.

Add new foods and snacks slowly, while reducing then eliminating junk food. Turn off the TV and introduce new games. Kids love family activities; walks, bike rides, roller skating, jaunts to the park or beach. Or stay at home and play the new interactive Wii games. Children may also be enticed by jump ropes, trampolines, a basketball hoop in the yard.

Older children may rebel against too much parental control. Give information and encouragement and role model healthy practices. Provide only healthy food choices. Older children may be too self-conscious to enjoy team sports or public activities like working out in a gym. Try family walks, bike rides, Wii games. Consider purchasing a treadmill for the home, a basketball hoop or trampoline for the backyard.

A nutritionist can help determine the correct target weight and help to set and reach goals. To determine bone structure have your child wrap his thumb and middle finger around the other wrist. If the fingertips touch, that's medium bone structure. If they overlap, your child has a small frame, and if they don't meet, your child is big boned.

Ask the nutritionist for weight loss tips for kids. Sometimes hospitals or clinics have health programs geared to children, or the doctor may recommend a weight loss camp that is designed to be fun. Kids play, hike and swim. The goal is to develop healthy eating habits, and an active lifestyle that is fun. Goals that require mustering willpower may succeed temporarily, but will always fail over time.
