Learn All About Acupuncture Instantly

By Lenny Bernofski

The Chinese first used acupuncture thousands of years ago. This form of natural healing was part of traditional Chinese medicine. Specific areas of the body are targeted with the insertion of metal needles.

It is based on practice and theory and practices the methods of Ying and Yang. It is believed to relieve the symptoms of many pains and also cure all types of diseases that affect the human body. However, this is based on belief more than actual fact.

A holistic healer that practices this alternative method of healing bases the placement of these needles according to the Chinese zodiac. It also divides the body into two parts. These parts are named solids and hollow, or Yin and Yang. This type of healing did not take hold in the Western part of the hemisphere until much later. It started to be noticed when US president Richard Nixon visited China in the nineteen seventies.

Yin or solids are attributed to the organs in the body. Organs such as the brain, heart and liver are classed under the Yin properties in this form of alternative medicine. Other areas of the body that are attributed to the yan properties in acupuncture are the intestines and blood cells.

Long ago, in the Stone Age there has been evidence of stone shaped and bone instruments being used as a tool in this holistic medicine alternative. Later on metal forms of these needles were introduced. There are many different variations of this method of healing in various parts of the world, each using its own practices and beliefs when it is administered to the patients.

Many believe that this method of healing is basically mind over matter. However, studies have shown that relief can be found with this method. This type of healing does not have a long term effect.
