Wedding day getting closer? Pants getting tighter? If you�??ve got four weeks and a bit of willpower you can still get in shape for your wedding and Jon Wade of Motley Health will tell you how.


Less than four weeks to go? Then do it for your honeymoon, or just for your health. Take four weeks to get yourself primed for a lifetime of staying in shape�?�


1. Weight watch


Healthy and sustainable weight loss is in the region of 2 lbs per week, so calculate how much weight you wish to lose and then set a goal date.


So, if you�??ve got a month to go, you can lose 8 lbs. Trying to lose too much weight too quickly can lead to rebound weight gain.


2. Calorie count


To maintain weight loss you must change your diet and exercise on a regular basis to create a daily calorie deficit. As a general rule, you need to consume 1000 calories a day less than your total daily maintenance level.


For example, a 25 year old male who is performing intensive exercise (yes, this will be you �?? we�??ll get to that) needs 3000 Calories a day. To lose 2 lbs a week you must not consume any more than 2000 Calories a day.


If you take a day off from exercise, you�??ll only be allowed 1500 Calories. You won�??t be taking any days off though.


3. Food fight


A balanced diet is vital. Reduced calorie does not mean reduced nutrition. You must consume a healthy balance of low GI carbohydrates, lean proteins and healthy fats.


Fish, eggs and chicken are excellent protein sources which will help you to build muscle and manage your appetite. That�??s �??fish, eggs�?� not �??fish eggs�?�. Lay off the caviar.


4. Faster, more intense


Make time to exercise twice a day. After exercise the body releases a hormone which suppresses hunger. This PYY hormone is also released when we digest protein. Exercising twice a day with a protein rich meal afterwards will help you to lose weight.


When it comes to exercise for fast weight loss you must focus on regular and intensive. Variety of exercise is important too, so you need to do intensive cardio workouts and strength training. Losing a lot of weight in a short space of time is not a walk in the park; although the odd walk in the park won�??t hurt.


Don�??t forget that if you�??re planning to start a period of exercise and you�??ve not done any for a long time you should probably get checked out by the doc, or at least get those weird fit people at the gym to help you plan a proper training schedule, you cannot just start running six miles a day.


5. Dry run


Give up booze. Alcohol is loaded with energy and when you drink you burn that energy before carbs and fats. If you�??re serious about looking great on your wedding day you must make this sacrifice. You�??ll look less of a div on the dance floor if you�??re sober too. If that�??s a step too far try switching lager for something less sugary, like gin. Remember too that you shouldn�??t drink pints of gin.


Finally, bear in mind that what we�??re describing here is a pretty intense programme for blokes who have maybe left it a bit late. For proper weight loss that stays off you�??ll want to aim for losing between 1 and 2 lb per week (so you�??re creating a calorie deficit of 3500 over the week).
