Losing Weight and Weight Loss Shouldn't Be Battles

By Jimmy Ulsal

Just about everybody struggles with his or her weight at least a couple of times during his (or her) lifetime. In some cases, weight gain (or weight problems) can be the result of hormone issues and other health problems that keep a body from properly burning fat. Other times it is something that people just need to work at. If you have been trying to lose weight for a while you've probably already tried to find success with most of the fad diets that are currently popular. How much success have you seen? Probably not a lot. The simple fact is that weight loss is not something that can be gotten through following these fad diets. Read on to learn about weight loss methods the fad diet creators don't want you to know about.

Make sure that progress photos are taken. You may hate the idea of having a "before" photo. Take one anyway. You can take as little as one photo each week while you work on your weight loss program. You want to have more than a "before" and "after" photo. You need photos to document your process. These photos will help to keep you inspired and keep you working hard on your goals. It is easier to stay with a weight loss program if you can see it working on you. Sometimes you need to see more than what you can see by looking in a mirror. We need a photo to compare ourselves to in order to really see how much work we have done and the success that we have had.

Always remember that no diet is going to be successful without accompanying it with an exercise routine. You could cut your caloric intake down to just a few hundred calories each day (which is not something that we would recommend you try) and if you aren't exercising you still won't lose any weight. Even if the hardest thing you do is going for a walk each afternoon, you'll have more success with your weight loss. It helps you burn calories by raising your energy level, toning your muscles and keeping you focused on your goals.Don't use the word "diet" for your new eating habits. Instead, call it "eating more nutritious meals" or something close to that. The word "diet" has taken on a negative connotation. When you refer to your new habits as "a diet" you are a lot more likely to resent them than if you call them what they are: "new healthy eating habits." Instead of assigning it a negative word, use positive, action-based words to describe your new lifestyle choices. This will help you when you try to explain your new habits to people who are questioning your methods or the changes that you have been making lately.Don't forget to do strength training when you work out: don't just do aerobic and cardio exercises. You might think that you only need to increase your endurance and heart rate. If you don't work on increasing your strength your workouts will never be able to be any more intense than they are right now. Getting in shape is all about building up your workouts over time. Exercise plateaus do not help you lose weight and work against your fitness. If you want to get healthier than you are right now, strength training is a must.Start reading the labels on the foods you buy. You probably think that doing this is a giant waste of time or a big hassle but you need to believe us when we tell you that the ingredients in your food do matter a lot. You want to avoid ingredients like hydrogenated oil and/or high fructose corn syrup. Think of trans fats as your enemy. Make sure, before you buy them, that the foods you purchase are free of these foods. Substitute new brands that are healthier than the brands you are used to using. You might not taste much of a difference at first but your body will definitely react better to the food that is healthier.

Make sure your calories come from nutritional sources. Empty calories are one of the worst things for weight loss. The main harbinger of empty calories is junk food. If you cut out the empty calories, you will be doing wonders for your weight loss system. The only calories you should take in should be from foods that your body can really use. The body stores empty calories in fat cells which grow and increase your weight. The best way to get to this goal is to eat a diet that is nutritious and healthy.

Everybody worries about weight loss at least a few times during their lives. A good attitude and a healthy dose of inspiration are very important if you want to successfully lose weight. You can easily get down to your goal weight if you find ways to view the different parts of your weight loss program in a positive light.
